About Beyond Change

The origin story of Beyond Change unfolds in 2019, with a collective of forward-thinkers converging around a common purpose: to carve pathways towards sustainable economics. This vision quickly evolved, and by 2021, Beyond Change emerged as an innovative force, championing sustainable development.

A significant milestone was reached in 2022 when the founders engaged with indigenous leaders during a crucial meeting. This encounter revealed the vast potential for Beyond Change's innovative approaches to resonate deeply through collaborations with indigenous communities.

The collaboration gained momentum in 2023 with an invitation to Canada, where the founders were warmly welcomed into indigenous traditions. They engaged in sacred rituals, including a cleansing Sweat Lodge ceremony, which marked a period of reflection and community bonding. These interactions paved the way for meaningful conversations with indigenous elders, setting the foundation for a partnership based on mutual respect and shared values.

Our Founders

In alphabetical order

Michaela Kepka, born in Prague, fled 1982 to Germany as a child with her parents, who were renowned glass artists. As a serial entrepreneur, she leveraged her artistic heritage to explore new territories in education and technology—founding an international school and a corporate innovation network.

Together with her business partner Sebastian Lithander, she co-founded Beyond Change, now promoting a new economy through partnerships with indigenous peoples to merge technology and spiritual wisdom. Michaela's career exemplifies the powerful synergy between traditional knowledge and modern innovation.

Michaela Kepka

Co-Founder and Managing Director

Sebastian Lithander, born in Bremen, is a serial entrepreneur who has dedicated the last two decades to investing predominantly in renewable energy and resource-efficient solutions. His lineage from the House of Hohenzollern drives his commitment to fostering sustainable practices for the benefit of future generations.

Sebastian's sustainability commitment led him to Canada's Okanagan region in 2023. Alongside his business partner, Michaela Kepka, they were honoured to gather with First Nations representatives from the Syilx Okanagan people. The highlight of their experience was the traditional Sweat Lodge ceremony, focusing on Body, Mind, and Soul cleansing and empowerment.

Sebastian Lithander

Co-Founder and Managing Director

Embracing the significance of their ceremony experience, Michaela and Sebastian were deeply moved by the principles of reconciliation and the importance of listening to the wisdom of elders. They committed to weaving this ancient knowledge into Beyond Change's sustainability efforts. Their visit marked the inception of a meaningful partnership, enriched by profound conversations with members of The Okanagan Nation Alliance.

This transformative encounter expanded both founders' understanding of Indigenous spiritual traditions. Since then, Michaela, Sebastian, and their team have been dedicated to respectfully incorporating these teachings into their sustainability initiatives. They recognize the indispensable role of Indigenous peoples as partners in stewardship—despite comprising just 6% of the global population, these communities protect 80% of the planet's remaining biodiversity. Beyond Change values its collaboration with Indigenous communities as a cornerstone for co-creating a sustainable future, grounded in shared knowledge, mutual respect, and collective action.
